Helped to support the creation of 1.1 million more businesses since 2010, with 5.6 million businesses operating in the UK in 2024. In 2010, there were 4.5 million businesses and there were 5.6 million in 2024 – creating over 1.1 million new businesses since 2010 because the right support and incentives were put in place to make the UK the best place in the world to start and run a business.
The UK had more ‘unicorn’ billion-dollar tech startups ups in 2024 than Germany, France and Sweden combined. The tech sector as a whole passed $1 trillion in valuation, attracting high-skilled jobs and investment to the UK.
Maintained the most generous business tax regime in the G7. The UK had the lowest headline rate of corporation tax in 2024 in the G7 and one of the most generous capital allowance regimes in the world, making the UK the best place in the world to start and grow a business.
Foreign direct investment in the UK was at its highest ever level in 2024, showing that the plan to grow the economy was working. FDI in the UK controlled by foreign companies reached over £2 trillion at the end of 2021 – an increase of £83.1 billion on the previous year. The UK’s FDI stock increased by 167.5 per cent on 2011.
Rose to become the third-best place in the world for investment. The UK overtook China to become US CEO’s favoured growth market, attracting foreign investment to grow the economy.
In the years after the pandemic, the UK had the third highest level of foreign direct investment in the world. Following the United States and China, the UK has had the third highest level of FDI in the last three years and since 2010, greenfield foreign direct investment has been the highest in Europe, helping to support new jobs and economic growth.
Slashed over £2 billion of red tape, cutting costs for businesses to help grow the economy. The Business and Trade Secretary committed to lifting 100 of the most significant trade barriers – so the Conservatives removed £2.2 billion of red tape in the first 200 days alone, equivalent to over £11 million every day.
