Led the world in supporting Ukraine. The UK was the first to send main battle tanks with our Challenger squadron. The Conservatives also sent 500 armoured vehicles, 15,000 anti-armour weapons, and four million rounds of small arms ammunition. In 2023 the UK hosted the Ukraine Recovery Conference, which raised over $60 billion towards Ukraine’s recovery and reconstruction, including a further $3 billion of guarantees to unlock World Bank lending to Ukraine and £240 million in bilateral assistance.
The UK is one of the most generous development donors in the G7, helping us to tackle poverty and insecurity around the world. The UK remains a champion for the international development agenda and a major donor globally. In 2022 the UK was the third largest development donor in the G7 as a percentage of Gross National Income, spending nearly £12.8 billion on aid.
Protected the rights of women and girls and working to end gender-based violence around the world. The Conservatives put women and girls at the heart of everything they do, building on their International Women and Girls’ Strategy. They countered the rollback of women and girls’ rights globally and were committed to delivering on the Conservatives’ promise to ensure 80 per cent of bilateral aid has a focus on gender equality by 2030. They worked to defend and progress sexual and reproductive health and rights.
Led NATO in the UK’s defence spending of 2.3 per cent of GDP, planning to grow defence spending to 2.5 per cent of GDP to protect the nation. As we respond to a more dangerous world, the Conservatives’ long-term aspiration was to invest 2.5 per cent of GDP in defence, up from the previous commitment of two per cent.
Led the way globally in defending Ukraine and making sure Putin fails by increasing military support to Ukraine to £7.1 billion for 2024-25. The Conservatives delivered £4.6 billion of military support to Ukraine since 2022, including 20 AS90 self-propelled 155mm battle ready guns, more than 10,800 anti-tank missiles, as military support increased to £2.5 billion for 2024-25.
Delivered the new fleet of Dreadnought class of submarines and the full renewal of our nuclear deterrent, keeping our country safe. The UK’s nuclear deterrent is the ultimate guarantee of our sovereignty. With the Conservatives’ ambition to increase defence spending to 2.5 per cent of GDP, this would ensure AUKUS could be delivered and build a new fleet of nuclear deterrent submarines.
Transformed the capabilities of our Armed Forces with world-leading defence vehicles and equipment, ensuring they can continue to uphold security in the air, land, and sea.
The Conservatives:
Replaced Trafalgar-class submarines with Astute-class nuclear-powered submarines, the largest and most advanced submarines operated by the Royal Navy.
Introduced the Ajax, an advanced, fully digitised, land vehicle system.
Worked with BAE Systems to design the Type 26 frigates specifically to hunt for enemy submarines and uphold maritime security.
Delivered the Queen Elizabeth Class, HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales – the largest and most powerful vessels ever constructed for the Royal Navy.
Delivered the F-35B Lightning project for the RAF, a cornerstone of Combat Air Operations for decades to come.
Invested in the Type 45 destroyers, the UK’s most advanced warships, to combat piracy, defend air attacks, and deliver humanitarian aid.
Delivered four new Tide Class Tankers to provide logistics support and services to the Royal Navy’s warships deployed around the world.
