In 2010, renewable energy sources made up just 7 per cent of the UK’s electricity generation, in 2024 that figure was nearing 50 per cent thanks to successive Conservative governments leading the way on bolstering our energy security.
Became the first major economy to halve emissions whilst growing the economy, sticking to the plan to reach net zero in a pragmatic way that protected family finances. Between 1990 and 2022 the UK halved emissions whilst growing the economy by 80 per cent. The UK was the first major economy to achieve this milestone, having cut emissions further and faster than any comparable country. The Conservatives were committed to continuing to meet targets but in a pragmatic way that wouldn’t clobber extra costs onto hard working families.
Secured £300 billion of investment into low carbon energy projects since 2010, ensuring energy security whilst growing the economy. The Conservatives saw £300 billion of investment in low-carbon energy since 2010 and anticipated around £100 billion of private investment coming into the UK on the horizon to strengthen the UK’s energy supply, meaning families were not paying to reach net zero.
Every operational nuclear power plant in Britain began its life under a Conservative government. Not only did they back new nuclear power such as Sizewell C, but every operational nuclear power plant across Britain started generating power under a Conservative government, taking the long-term steps to bolster the UK’s energy security.
