Supported 440,000 high skilled jobs as the Conservative grew the economy and cut emissions. Delivered the landmark Net Zero Strategy to ensure the country delivered on its emission targets and secured 440,000 high-skilled jobs in the process.
Achieved a record in 2022 for energy generation in both onshore and offshore wind, strengthening our energy security whilst cutting emissions. Generation from offshore wind increased by 27 per cent in 2022. At 45.0 TWh, offshore wind generation alone exceeded total renewable generation in 2012 (41.2 TWh). In 2022, offshore wind generation accounted for a third of all renewable energy generation in 2022.
Reduced the UK’s reliance on coal as a fuel source by 86 per cent between 2010 and 2024. In 2010, coal provided 32 per cent of our energy compared with 4.4 per cent in 2020, a drop of 86 per cent, cleaning up the UK’s energy mix.
Announced a new government backed Green Savings Bond, so UK savers could tackle climate change and deliver investment into green jobs to help grow the economy. This new environmental retail savings product was delivered by NS&I, who also issue Premium Bonds, and built on the Government’s world-leading Sovereign Green Bond to deliver investment into green jobs.
Planted almost 18 million trees since 2019, cleaning up our air and protecting the environment for future generations.
The UK’s Blue Belt Programme is the world’s largest marine protection network. This world-leading programme has helped UK Overseas Territories protect and enhance ocean health across more than 4.3 million square kilometres of marine environment.
